Betting on College Bowl Games
Now that the Heisman Trophy has been awarded to Alabama running back Derrick Henry, we can move on to arguably the most exciting part of the college football season, betting on college football!! The following is a brief guide to NCAA Football Betting for the upcoming bowl season.
National Semifinal Number 1: Oklahoma versus Clemson. Starting off their Heisman Trophy snubs, 3rd and 4th place finishers Deshaun Watson, and Baker Mayfield, quarterback Clemson and Oklahoma respectively in the Capital One Orange Bowl. Betting this game online is completely dependent on what the final line winds up being. On paper, the two teams appear pretty evenly matched and feature vaunted offensive attacks. Watch for the over/under on this game. Based on recent trends the teams could theoretically combine for northward of 80 points.
National Semifinal Number 2: Michigan State versus Alabama. The aforementioned Derrick Henry, the 2015 Heisman Trophy Winner leads Alabama against Connor Cook and Michigan State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. Betting wise this game will be a tough one to prognosticate as Michigan State’s battle tested defense could theoretically slow down the vaunted Alabama offensive attack, or Derrick Henry could run wild and Alabama could win by 35. Prop bets might be interesting for this game. Interesting props include, whether Cook or Henry will account for more total yards, or which of the two players will account for more touchdowns.
Other Games of Interest: While the two National Semifinals and the subsequent National Championship Game taking place January 11th, 2016 in Glendale, Arizona figure to be the most watched and most betted upon games, there are several other intriguing match ups from a betting perspective.
Miami Beach Bowl- South Florida versus Western Kentucky
This bowl features two explosive offenses lead by two different types of quarterbacks. USF’s Quinton Flowers is among the top dual threat QB’s in the country, while Western Kentucky’s Brandon Doughty is among the top passers in the country. Over/Under’s and prop bets could be a lot of fun in this one.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl– Houston versus Florida State
Florida State was good, but quite not good enough this year to get an invitation to College Football’s version of the Final Four. Houston is just trying to prove that a team out of the American Athletic Conference belongs with the Nation’s Elite. The opening line is Florida State at 6.5, while Houston’s Greg Ward Jr. is explosive, betting on FSU to cover is about as safe as it gets this bowl season.
Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl- Notre Dame versus Ohio State
This game figures to be among the most closely contested Bowl Games this season. Currently, Ohio State is favored by 6.5 points. Throw out any lines when these two teams get together, this one is truly a toss up that could go either way.
