First Transfer Month Shows £475m Spent by Premier League Clubs

The world of sports betting news has some new figures to look at. Since the beginning of a transfer window that opened on the 1st of July, football clubs belonging to the Premier League have already spent a total of £475m in order to sign new players. The figure does not include the massive deal for Leroy Sane, which was valued at £37m in his move to Manchester City. This amount was confirmed on August 2nd.

Business analyst firm Deloitte states that the total outlay could rise beyond £1bn before the transfer window is closed for the summer on August 31st. The Premier League will be starting a new television deal this season that is valued at approximately £5.1bn.

The most notables transfers would include Paul Pogba’s potential move to Manchester United. This deal is worth a reported £100m and would boost the football club’s spending figures significantly. Pogba is currently a midfielder for Juventus and no transfer has been confirmed at the present time.

Alex Thorpe, a manager of sports business at Deloitte, says that the new broadcasting deals are encouraging Premier League clubs to spend more up front for the best players, as the competitive moves promise to pay off with more revenue earned from televised matches. The major deal promises to have an impact on sports betting news and what to expect from bookies during the coming seasons.

BT and Sky will be spending £960m and £4.2bn respectively for the rights to show some of the most popular matches between clubs during the next three seasons. In the next season alone, each Premier League club is expected to earn anywhere from £30m to £50m extra from the broadcasted matches alone.

To put some of these numbers in perspective for fans of sports betting, the previous combined transfer windows from both summer and winter totaled £1.045bn, and the entire season before that saw £965m in transfers. The upward trend potentially means this next season is bound to shake up the sportsbooks as major players make moves to different Premier League teams.

Some other big transfer deals include the signing of Sadio Mane, as he moved from Southampton to Liverpool for an estimated value of £34m. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan made a switch to Manchester City from Dortmund, with Man City also picking up winger Nolito from Celta Vigo, and both players were transferred for approximately £33.8m after all was said and done.

There are still many potential transfers waiting with big figures attached. French forward Alexandre Lacazette has reportedly been presented with a £29.3m bid from Arsenal that was rejected in turn by Lyon, meaning the club will have to put more money on the table if they wish to have the 25-year-old in their ranks. Chelsea may attempt to return the striker Romela Lukaku to their club from Everton, which could cost between £60m and £75m to complete. Saido Berahino may be transferred from West Brom to Stoke in a reported £20m move.
